The General Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that the lawyer Adriana Georgescu, a former PNL member caught red-handed by the DNA, asked him for support for political positions, a request that he refused. The mayor denied her involvement in his campaign and explained why he appears in the photos with her.
On the show Insider Politic, broadcast on Saturday on Prima TV, Ciprian Ciucu was asked if he knows Adriana Georgescu, given that his name appears in the DNA transcripts from her influence peddling file. The liberal mayor confirmed that he knows it “from the party”.
“It was like a letter mark. How a leader saw, pac, let's take a picture, let's take a picture, let's take a picture! Who didn't know Adriana Georgescu? It was very difficult to avoid a picture with Adriana. Plus she was a lady and, effectively, out of common sense, from a civilized behavior, you take a picture with someone.”
Asked if he found Adriana Georgescu in the organization when he took over the leadership of PNL Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu stated that she had probably been present in the party since 2016.
How Ciucu explains the photos with the lawyer
The mayor also provided details about the context of a photo in which the lawyer whispers something in his ear, explaining that the image was captured at an official meeting.
“There's a picture in which he talks to me. It's a picture of the Transport Commission. At one point, I didn't put it up, Mr. Grindeanu hired her and she was running the Bucharest Transport Commission. And she was saying something in my ear, that I was also invited as the mayor of District 6 to speak about public transport in Bucharest. That's the big picture. So I, yes, I know it. I'm not saying I don't know it.”
Regarding possible favors, Ciprian Ciucu admitted that Adriana Georgescu was aiming to obtain “political power”, but claimed that she kept her distance:
“Usually, she asked for things that didn't belong to me. Like, to be supported politically in I don't know what positions. But I didn't comply. I kind of have a nose like that”, the mayor pointed out.
Although he admitted that Adriana Georgescu had managed to take “some 3-4 pictures” with him at Congress, the mayor declared that he was “absolutely” calm in front of the DNA investigation, at the same time showing his indignation at the use of his name: “The fact that Tupeul asked for money in my name bothered me enormously”.
“He was not in the campaign team”
Regarding the lawyer's claims from the DNA interceptions, according to which she would have collected funds for his campaign, Ciprian Ciucu categorically denied any such involvement:
“He didn't contribute. He called me that he wanted to help, to bring. I'm not interested, no. So he had an attempt, he had made some support groups on WhatsApp. I got out of them. He wasn't in the campaign team,” explained the mayor of the Capital.
He emphasized that he had no private meetings with Adriana Georgescu, but only random interactions at the party, also clarifying her status: “It is fixed what should not be in politics. She is not the PNL lawyer. She was never the PNL lawyer. She is a PNL member who is a lawyer.”
