Minister Radu Miruță announced on Wednesday that he and his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, signed in Berlin a Joint Declaration of Intent between the two ministries, “which establishes a modern framework for cooperation in the field of defense materials”.
Miruță claims that the approach represents “a concrete step towards the integration of the Romanian defense industry into the European ecosystems”.
According to the minister, the “four essential directions” on which the partnership will focus are logistical support, bilateral purchases of products and services, co-development of military equipment, respectively research and development in the field of defense technologies.
“We have the chance to build an efficient European cooperation model, which brings real benefits both for national security and for Romanian industry. It is our responsibility to make the most of it,” he added, on Wednesday evening, in the Facebook post.
What he said about meeting Boris Pistorius
Radu Miruță described the meeting with the German Minister of Defense as “open, applied and oriented towards solutions”.
“Romania must not be a simple wagon pulled by others. It can and must be one of the locomotives of this common European effort. Everything depends on the seriousness with which we apply, the rigor with which we transform the plans we have been making for several months into action, the ability to identify common segments of interest with other partners”, continued the Minister of Defense.
The official specified that he and the German counterpart spoke “about how we jointly strengthen the security of NATO's Eastern Flank, about strategic investments in defense, made head on, and about our collaboration within the European SAFE program.”
“This program represents a huge opportunity: a train that Romania cannot afford to miss if it wants an army with modern equipment, adapted to the new realities,” Minister Radu Miruță also declared.
