Drunk and without a license, the young man, aged 29, refused to stop at the police signal, drove through a river bed, after which he abandoned his car. He was caught in a wooded area and was detained, the IPJ Neamț announced on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday evening, around 10:40 p.m., when the policemen from the Ştefan cel Mare Rural Police Station were alerted “that a car was moving erratically, endangering several people”.
“The police moved to the spot, on Calea Romanului street in the Girov locality, where they identified a car, which had the direction of travel towards the village of Boţeşti. The police turned on the acoustic and light signals, the driver did not comply and continued his journey on several streets towards the exit from the village of Boţeşti,” IPJ Neamț reported, quoted by Agerpres.
Arriving in the area of a ballast tank, the young man drove his car through the bed of the Cracău river, and when he could no longer go forward, he got out of the vehicle, running away from the police and abandoning the car.
Images of his car stuck in the water were posted by the local publication Știri din Neamț.
“Following the search activities, the driver was spotted by the police in a wooded area in the town of Boțeşti. The driver, aged 29, was tested with the breathalyzer, the result being 0.66 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air. At the same time, following the checks carried out by the police, it was found that he does not have a driver's license”, stated IPJ Neamț
On Sunday, the young man was detained, being investigated for the offenses of driving a vehicle without a driver's license and under the influence of alcohol.
