MegaFon connected five regions of the Far Eastern Federal District to high-speed home Internet

November 25 17:50

MegaFon has connected five regions of the Far Eastern Federal District to high-speed home Internet. Thus, the company has completed a large-scale program to deploy the service across most of the country.

The project was implemented thanks to the expansion of partnership with Rostelecom within the FVNO model.

The new service has become available to residents of the Amur, Magadan and Sakhalin regions, Kamchatka Territory and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Now current and new MegaFon customers in these territories will be able not only to use cellular communications, but also to connect to the operator’s home Internet, as well as receive package access to popular online cinemas and TV. This will allow subscribers to significantly save on communication services and simplify cost management, since all services (mobile communications, home Internet and TV) are paid from one account.

The new service for residents of these regions became available as a result of the expansion of the FVNO model implemented by MegaFon on the infrastructure of Rostelecom.

The FVNO (Fixed Virtual Network Operator) model is an offer to customers of a converged product that combines mobile and fixed-line services when one of the partners does not have its own broadband Internet access infrastructure.

As part of the partnership between operators, Rostelecom provides free capacity for connecting home Internet in the region, and MegaFon offers its range of services and subscriber support. The first project on the FVNO model was launched by MegaFon in 2020 in Astrakhan. Now, taking into account new connections in the Far East, the company offers convergent tariffs in 72 regions of the country.

“We have completed the first stage of development of the project to expand the geographic access of the converged product. We thank our partners from Rostelecom: their infrastructure and expertise allowed us to quickly and efficiently scale the service. The next step is to use our partner’s network in those regions where MegaFon already has its own wired Internet infrastructure. Thanks to this, we will be able to significantly increase the penetration of the service and increase its availability for an even larger number of customers,” says Artem Filin, director of fixed-line business development at MegaFon.

“Rostelecom has the largest infrastructure of high-speed Internet networks in the country; we can guarantee customers high quality communications and wide access to services anywhere in Russia: from small towns to megacities. The ability to provide a full range of services for another operator will certainly have a positive impact on the development of the market in the regions of Russia and will provide convenience and maximum choice for all residents. We will continue to develop projects using the FVNO model,” emphasized Alexey Demyanenko, director of products and tariffs for the mass segment of Rostelecom.
