According to the latest report by the Credit Agricole bank, the profitability of egg and poultry production in Poland has reached a record high level this year. According to the president of KFHDiPJ, Paweł Podstawka, the reasons include, among others: low prices of wheat and corn used to produce feed, while reducing the supply of poultry and eggs.

According to data from the latest “Agro map” prepared by Credit Agricole analysts, during the first nine months of this year. the value of Polish poultry exports increased by nearly 20%. and eggs by 28 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

As the bank's experts point out, the purchase price of poultry in October 2025 was PLN 6.66 per kilogram and was almost 20% higher. from 2024 pricesand in purchase, eggs of size M were paid by PLN 67.99 per hundred pieces, i.e. by 36.6%. more than a year ago. At the same time, the prices of feed for hens, both meat breeds and laying hens, dropped by 3-4%, which means that the profitability of poultry and egg production is at record levels.

At the same time, Credit Agricole analysts predict that in the coming months, after the stabilization of the epizootic situation related to large losses in flocks caused by avian influenza and Newcastle disease, egg prices will fall, although they will remain at a slightly increased level – about PLN 70 per hundred pieces at the end of 2025 and about PLN 65 at the end of 2026. In the opinion of the authors of the report, poultry purchasing prices should also be expected to decline to PLN 6.55/kg at the end of 2025 and approximately PLN 5.80 at the end of 2026.

The president of the National Federation of Poultry Breeders and Egg Producers, Paweł Podstawka, indicates the oversupply of plant production with a limited supply of animal production as the cause of the current situation.

– Diseases remain a key factor in poultry and eggs. Losses related to HPAI and Newcastle disease have reduced production potential, and broiler hatching rates are now estimated to be approximately 6 percent lower. lower than in the no-disease scenario. The result is high prices of eggs and poultry. This improves current profitability, but does not solve the problem of unstable supply. The transformation of laying hen breeding towards cage-free systems permanently increases production costs and at the same time limits the pace of supply recovery. Even if the epizootic situation improves, egg and poultry prices may remain significantly above historical averages, Podstawka believes.

The president of KFHDiPJ agrees with the opinion of analysts about the strong position of the Polish poultry industry, which, despite the expansion of food from Ukraine to EU markets, maintains its presence on foreign markets.

– The data from the report contradict the thesis that Poland is losing the EU market to Ukraine. Poland's share in EU agri-food imports has increased in recent years to approximately 5.5 percent, while Ukraine's share is less than 2 percent. Competition is real in selected segments – especially eggs intended for processing from cages – but there is no question of systematic displacement of Polish producers. At the same time, it is clear that the operating model based solely on low price and volume is no longer working. With rising costs, disease risks and regulatory pressure, the only sustainable advantage is biosecurity, production stability and real added value. Without this, price and supply volatility will become the new norm, not the exception – Podstawka believes. (PAP)
