The German Anti-Cart Office announced on Wednesday that it has initiated a procedure against the TEMU to examine whether the Chinese company influences the prices of third parties on its electronic trade platform, Reuters reports.
“We are investigating the suspicion that TEMU could impose inadmissible requirements on traders prices on the German market,” said the office, Andreas Mundt.
“Such requirements could be significant restrictions on competition and, finally, could lead to price increases on other selling channels,” he added.
The procedure was opened against the company Waleco Technology Limited, based in Dublin, which operates as TEMU in Germany.
TEMU transmitted that it complies with the laws and regulations applicable on the markets on which it operates. “We are confident that any concerns about this aspect can be successfully resolved,” the company said, in a statement sent by E-mail.
The TEMU platform, which offers a wide range of products, is open to German traders for about a year, MMIrcuri said.
Temu currently has 19.3 million active users in Germany, while over 100 million users use the European online market every month, according to the German Office.
