Putin Addresses Cybersecurity Urgency in Meeting with Officials

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet with senior officials on Wednesday to address the pressing issue of cybersecurity, as announced by the Kremlin. The announcement highlighted the increasing urgency of this topic, although it was emphasized that the meeting was not prompted by recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian data centers, according to Reuters.
“Artificial intelligence technologies bring numerous benefits and advantages, enhancing efficiency. However, at the same time, the attempts by various states to turn these new technologies into weapons present threats to entire sectors of any country’s economy,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov told reporters.
Peskov noted the need for preparedness against such challenges, stating, “This is why the president is organizing this meeting today.” He further clarified that the discussions would not focus on last week’s drone strikes which targeted four Russian data centers, including three owned by technology group Yandex and one belonging to Sberbank.
“No, this is a much more systemic meeting. It is not related to those specific and isolated attacks,” he asserted.
Among the attendees will be government ministers, high-ranking security officials, the head of Sberbank, and the governor of the central bank, Elvira Nabiullina, Peskov added.
