PKP Intercity Reports Record July Passenger Numbers

In July, PKP Intercity achieved record-breaking performance, transporting a total of 9.5 million passengers. This remarkable figure marks a 9% increase compared to the same month last year, according to the company’s report.
Passenger Growth in July
The railway operator reported that this surge in passenger numbers is particularly striking when viewed over a longer timeframe, with 2024’s figures being 20% lower than the current year and 34% lower than in 2023.
The summer season commenced successfully this year, with a combined total of 17.8 million travelers using PKP Intercity’s services in June and July alone. This is the highest recorded figure for the first half of the summer season in the company’s history. In comparison, last year saw 16.5 million passengers during the same period, an 8% increase year-on-year. For reference, in 2024 approximately 15 million passengers traveled, achieving a 19% increase, while in 2023, only 13.2 million used the service, reflecting a 35% growth.
Daily Services and the Nieśpieszny Train
This summer, PKP Intercity has launched around 560 daily connections. From June through the end of July, the company expanded its train sets by adding 2,224 additional carriages to more than 1,400 trains in response to rising demand for rail travel during the peak summer season.
The “Nieśpieszny” train, designed to evoke the atmosphere of the 1980s, has also seen significant popularity among passengers. Between early June and the end of July, this train completed 21 journeys, carrying over 4,000 passengers across more than 9,000 kilometers. The company announced that additional routes would be introduced in the autumn edition of this unique service.
Future Passenger Goals
In 2025, PKP Intercity recorded a total of 89.2 million passengers. The company estimates that this year, it will exceed 96 million travelers. As the leading interregional railway operator in the country, PKP Intercity offers connections between major cities, popular tourist destinations, and international routes.
The operator provides four categories of trains: economical TLK (Twoje Linie Kolejowe), IC (Intercity), EIC (Express Intercity), and the premium EIP (Express Intercity Premium) service with Pendolino trains.
