German defense minister Boris Pistorius believes that US President Donald Trump's proposals regarding the vast territorial assignments of Ukraine for Russia are too far -reaching. Their acceptance would be similar to “surrender” – as he said on Sunday at the Ard station.

According to Pistorius, Ukraine knows that a permanent, trustworthy agreement on suspension of weapons or a peace agreement “can or will also lead to territorial assignments”.
“But they will certainly not go so far – or they should not go so far – like the last proposal of the American president,” said Pistorius. “Ukraine itself could get a year ago what was included in this proposal, basically through surrender.”
Pistorius, which will probably remain the defense minister in the new German coalition government of CDU/CSU and SPD, assured Ukraine about further military assistance from Germany.
“If Ukraine collapses, if Putin wins this war in the sense that it will occupy Ukraine, and even only a large part of it, it will be a maximum threat to NATO territory, and also to neighboring countries such as Moldova and Georgia,” said Pistorius.
For everyone it must be clear: “This is not just about solidarity with Ukraine, this is our security and our peace in Europe” – emphasized the German Minister of Defense.
