A resident of the Krasnoyarsk Territory received a “condition” for growing drugs for self-medication

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a court sentenced a resident of the Ilansko-Nizhneingashsky district for growing poppies and possessing marijuana.

The press service of the regional prosecutor's office said that last summer, law enforcement officers came to a 37-year-old man to check the storage of prohibited items. The owner of the house voluntarily gave up an old gun and cartridges hidden in his possession.

After that, a large amount of marijuana was found hidden in a shed behind the house. The man picked some of the wild hemp outside the garden, and then moved it and stored it in the utility room. In a separate part of the yard, he placed a greenhouse with beds in which he grew narcotic poppy. The plantings were carefully weeded, and a video camera was installed nearby to monitor the “crops.”

“Later it turned out that at the beginning of August 2025, the man had already collected part of the poppy grown, dried it in the attic and left it there, as he explained, for “pain relief.” He brewed the heads with boiling water and drank the decoction, believing that this was only a folk remedy, and not raw material for a drug. The examination left no room for doubt: both marijuana and poppy were in the prohibited category, and the mass of substances reached a large size,” the supervisory agency clarified.

The court found the man guilty of illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic drugs (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and their illegal storage (Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, suspended for the same period.

The prosecutor's office added that even if we are talking about growing drug-containing plants for “personal consumption,” several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation related to the illegal storage and cultivation of drug-containing plants are still violated.
