Mette-Marit's son accused of rape and violence. The verdict has been passed


The trial of 29-year-old Marius Borg Hoeiby began on February 3 at the district court in Oslo and lasted until March 19. The convict is the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from one of her previous relationships before her marriage with the heir to the throne, Prince Haakon.

Marius has no royal title, does not belong to the royal court and has not held any official positions.

Accused of 40 offences

The indictment included 40 deedswhich were to take place in 2018-2024. The most serious allegations concerned four rapes. Hoeiby was also accused of mental and physical violence against a former partner, repeated violation of court contact bans, damage to property and participation in drug trafficking.

Celebrities and media representatives testified in court: the editor of “Subjekt” magazine Danby Choi, actress Mia Gundersen and one of the most popular Norwegian influencers, Sophie Elise.

The trial attracted extraordinary media attention from around the world. The court granted accreditation to over 200 journalists. Although Hoeiby is not formally a member of the ruling family, his case has hit the Norwegian monarchy, which is experiencing an image crisis. At the beginning of the year, Princess Mette-Marit's close contacts with the American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were revealed, and the elder daughter of King Harald V, Princess Maertha, and her husband Durek, who pretends to be a shaman, have been causing controversy and moral scandals for years.

Judgment

A court in Oslo on Monday sentenced Marius Borg Hoeiby, the son of the wife of the heir to the throne of Norway, Princess Mette-Marit, to four years in prison. The man was found guilty of, among others, abusing his former partner and raping two other women.

Hoeiby stayed found guilty of two rapes, abuse of a former partner Nora Haukland, violence against one of the other female applicants, threats, persistent or ruthless behavior and violations of road traffic law.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a two-year ban on the man from contact with one of the complaining women and awarded compensation from Hoeiby to the four women.

Hoeiby stayed acquitted of four counts of the indictment, including two sexual offense charges.

The court announced the verdict in the accused's absence. He did not appear in the courtroom due to illness and heard the ruling remotely.

The date of announcing the verdict coincided with recent information about the significant deterioration of the health condition of the accused's mother. A week ago, Mette-Marit, who suffers from a severe lung disease, was put on the waiting list for a transplant, without which – according to doctors – she has no more than a year left to live.
