The manager of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases “Prof. Dr. Matei Balș”, Dr. Adrian Marinescu, said, after the tragedy at the Children's Hospital in Iasi, that these nosocomial infections exist anywhere in the world and there is no hospital on the world where these infections will be zero.

“These nosocomial infections, which we now call infections associated with medical science, as is the case with the evening, are categories of infections that exist anywhere in the world. There is no hospital on the world where these infections are to zero.

And two, just as important, the way they intervene, in the way I have the first case and the speed they do, especially that if we talk about the intensive care unit, we are talking about vulnerable people, that is, we are talking about those who have a problem immune system, if there are young children, the more. So, in these people, a bacterium of this kind can come up with complications that go to death“, Doctoral Adrian Marinescu said in an intervention at Digi24.

The doctor said that the bacterium itself, but the fact that this infection appears in a person who has associated diseases, in an intensive care section and things are categorically more complicated.

According to Marinescu, in recent years there have been important steps then, because five years ago, or perhaps with a while, these nosocomial infections were not reported, it was an absolutely clear under-increport.

At the moment, things have changed. It's true that there's a better place. The second important aspect, sure that if there are mistakes and these things are demonstrated, there must be sanction, clearly.

And related to what can be done from now on, for example, the Matei Balş Institute, together with the Ministry of Health and the authorities in the field, have carried out such awareness programs in relation to nosocomial infections, have been made courses, reports have been made, only that, unfortunately, these things do not change overnight and we will have much more to do so, so that we will have much more to do so,said Marinescu.

He also showed that there are many projects that can help, they can train, they can help the medical staff from all hospitals in Romania so that they are better prepared.

“The epidemiology service, that is, the spiam, which exists in each hospital and is mandatory, has an extremely important role in monitoring at the hospital level, permanently, and any such case should be reported and the measures should be immediate and very clear, according to the protocols”said Marinescu.

We recall that six children admitted to the Intensive Care section (ATI) of the “St. Maria” Children's Clinical Hospital in Iași died in the last days, after they were infected with the Bacteria Serratia Marcescens, according to the information transmitted by the Public Health Directorate (DSP) Iași.

Other patients diagnosed with the same bacterium are still under medical supervision.

DSP Iaşi started an epidemiological investigation at the Children's Hospital “Saint Maria” regarding a possible outbreak of infections with a bacterium.

The director of the Children's Hospital “Saint Mary” From Iasi, Cătălina Ionescu, said that the identified germs are sensitive to antibiotics, stating that it has been decided to limit the hospitalizations to ATI since 16 September.
