Yaya Toure (43), one of the greatest African midfielders in history, has been appointed head coach of Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava.
The former Ivorian international signed a contract valid for three years and will thus mark the first experience of his career as a head coach, after several mandates spent in the secondary role.

So far, Toure has worked as an assistant coach at Olimpik Donetsk, Akhmat Groznîi, Standard Liege and the Saudi Arabian national team. The last experience was at the Saudi national team, where he was part of the staff of Roberto Mancini, his former coach from Manchester City.
I am very happy and excited. Honestly, I can't wait to start working together on Monday. My predecessor deserves huge respect for what he achieved at Slovan. I want to build on his work, but also bring something new and unique.
Football is everything to me. I love challenges and I am extremely excited to coach a big club with a rich history, a beautiful stadium and high ambitions.
As an assistant coach I had the chance to work with Roberto Mancini, for example, but for a long time I wanted to work on my own project as a head coach.– said Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure's playing career spanned nearly two decades. At Manchester City he became one of the club's iconic figures, winning three Premier League titles and an FA Cup.
The 2013–14 season remains one of the most impressive of his career, when he scored 24 Premier League goals, a rare feat for a midfielder.
Before the adventure in England, Toure also made history at Barcelona, where he won the title three times in Spain and was part of the famous team that achieved the “sixtuple” in 2009 under the command of Pep Guardiola.
