We know which banks have the most customers. Number 1 is not a surprise. And the rest?

Bankers cannot complain about the lack of customers. Bankier.pl checked which institutions serve the most individual clients in Poland and keep the most ROR personal accounts. There is no surprise – number one in both categories is PKO Bank Polski. And what are the next places in the ranking?

Below the collected data show the state at the end of March 2025, i.e. after the first quarter. In the first table we took information about the number of customers with individual profile served by a given bank. 12 institutions gave us an answer. As a curiosity, it can be said that they serve nearly 49 million customers in total. Of course, this number is only “virtual” and cannot be compiled, for example, with the number of Polish population.
This is due to the fact that many customers duplicate between banks. One customer can be saved in the file of up to several banks. It is enough that he has an account in one, in the other place, in the third credit card, and in the fourth loan. And accounts, deposits or loans can have much more dispersed between banks. Then each bank counts him as “his own”. In this context, it is also worth noting that the “individual client” is defined differently in banks. Some institutions also include small entrepreneurs who run company accounts (e.g. JDG and SME).
On the other hand, the individual data of each bank is important. We learn from them that PKO Bank Polski remains number one on the market in terms of the number of individual customers. It has 11.5 million, i.e. less than 2 percent. more than a year ago. Here, customers of the Inteligo online brand are also included, but it is only a few hundred thousand at most. people (the bank does not provide this information).
The second largest bank in terms of the number of retail clients is Bank Pekao. It has 6.7 million, and in the last year there has been an increase of 5.7 percent. The third place on the podium is taken by Santander Bank Polska with a number of nearly 5.5 million customers (an increase of 2.5 percent of RDR). It is worth recalling that next year there will be reshuffles. The Santander brand will be replaced by Brand Erste.

We also checked how many accounts for individual clients are conducting banks. The data was also provided to us by the Cooperative Banking Sector – the BPS SGB Association. In total, at the end of the first quarter of ROR accounts (savings and billing accounts), the analyzed banks had 41.5 million.
And here we are dealing with a similar situation as in a list of customers. In total, this is a large number, but many of the bills are doubled. PKO BP, who has 9.5 million bills, remains the leader. Bank Pekao is in second place, and then Santander.

For both statements, it is worth remembering one more issue. We do not know exactly how many customers remain active, and how many no longer use the bank's services (e.g. he has a forgotten account there). It must be borne in mind that not all accounts are actively used. Sometimes this is due to the fact that the customer stopped using a given offer, at other times, for example, his death. Banks make reviews once every few years and then “clean” statistics and unused files and accounts.
