Two factors saved Poland from the tradition of dividing Poland again

In 2022, in 2023, for giraffes – in 2024, it was still possible to hold the opinion that Russia would not have attacked Poland because NATO would have protected it. Or your own army. Or together.

As of 2025–2026, the falsity of this thesis is obvious. Yes, if the Russian Federation decided to attack Poland, it would have done so. No, NATO would not have intervened. No, the Polish armed forces, even if they are not the weakest in Europe, would not have been deterred. Sorry, these are the facts. The issue of occupying Poland would be purely a matter of time and effort.

Thus, two factors saved the world from the old tradition of the partition of Poland:

  1. Russia decided to attack Ukraine first.
  2. Ukraine, at the cost of incredible sacrifices, hit Russia in the teeth.

Therefore, damn it, I’m not morally ready to hear any talk that Ukraine owes Poland something. Nothing, nothing at all, that Poland has done for Ukraine constitutes even a small percentage of what Ukraine, at its own expense, saved Poland from.

We can discuss any historical issues, but an attempt to tie the events of the last five years to settling scores will be in favor of Ukraine by an incredible margin. Therefore, in principle, I am all for it, but in a way that is fair and objective.
