Reconstruction of the route continues on the Krasnoyarsk bypass near Solontsy. An underground pedestrian crossing is currently being built there. Why is it needed, they told KrUDor.
The crossing should provide a pedestrian connection between the village of Novaland, the village of Solontsy and the Metro shopping center. According to road workers, local residents themselves asked to build a crossing in this area.
The designers chose the most suitable place for it. Once the work is completed, there will also be pedestrian paths here. KrUDor explained that now it is impossible to safely cross the road in this place outside of a specially equipped area. The highway is four-lane and the traffic intensity is high.
A controlled ground crossing with a traffic light, according to experts, could greatly complicate traffic flow. An unregulated crossing on such a site would also be unsafe. During the design, various options were considered, including an overpass. In the end, we chose underground. The level of the road here is noticeably higher than the approaches to it. An overpass would require a higher rise, longer stairs, ramps or elevators. The underground passage will be approximately at the same level as the approaches, so it will be more convenient to use.
Another reason for this decision is related to technical work. In this area, it was still necessary to rebuild the culvert and lay communications, so the construction of an underground passage became a more rational option.
The installation of the tunnel elements has now been completed. The contractor begins sealing seams, waterproofing and finishing work.
KrUDor also noted that the crossing is being built taking into account the future development of the territory. According to road workers, doing it now as part of the reconstruction is faster and cheaper than returning to this issue in a few years. The reconstruction of the route is taking place under the national project “Infrastructure for Life”.
