“So far, 11 drone strikes on Kharkiv have been confirmed, and two drones have crashed without detonating”said the mayor of the city, Ihor Terekhov, Kyiv Independent writes.
In the city of Kharkiv, 15 people were injured in the wave of drone attacks. Cars, a cafe and a utility company building were also damaged, according to the State Emergency Service.
“The enemy hit apartment buildings, civilian businesses, shops, cars and urban infrastructure. One of the drones hit a multi-story building. Only by a miracle were there no casualties. Cars near the building burned, dozens of vehicles were damaged, and the windows of the surrounding buildings were broken.” Terekhov said.
In the nearby town of Ciuhuiv, three people were killed and three others were injured in a Russian missile attack, the Emergency Situations Service said.
As a result of the strikes, homes, commercial buildings, cars and garages were damaged. Also, a land covered with vegetation caught fire.
Ciuhuiv is about 28 kilometers southeast of Kharkiv.
Russia regularly carries out deadly attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukrainian cities as the war continues.
Despite months of US-brokered peace talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly refused to accept a ceasefire in Ukraine. The Russian leader rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's open letter a day after it was published.
The open letter stated that Russia and Ukraine should begin direct negotiations, but noted that “other specific participants may be included in this bilateral format already initiated between us”.
