Dead and injured in the explosion of a local bus in western Switzerland. Witnesses say that the tragedy was caused by a man who set himself on fire

Several people died and others were injured in the explosion of a bus, which caught fire, on Tuesday evening, in Kerzers, a small town in the canton of Fribourg, in the west of Switzerland, the cantonal police announced.

“This Tuesday, March 10, around 18:25 (local) time (19:25, Romanian time), a fire broke out in a bus (…) in Kerzers”the police of the canton of Friborg announced on Facebook.
“Several people were injured, and several people died. The intervention of the rescuers is ongoing. The causes are not known at the moment”, the police announced.
Witnesses told Swiss media that a man poured gasoline inside the bus and set himself on fire, causing fast and intense flames that rose several meters high.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, police and a rescue helicopter, quickly responded. One injured person was airlifted to Zurich University Hospital.
Police have not yet verified witness accounts of the self-immolation and are planning a press conference to provide more details. No information has been made public regarding the man's identity or the possible motive for the act.
