“German-speaking Americans.” The AfD politician divides his compatriots into two categories

In the podcast of the Swiss journalist Roger Koeppel, known for justifying Putin, Bjoern Hoecke dwelled on his vision of Germany for over two hours. Koeppel announced his interlocutor as “the most controversial figure in German politics”. We didn't have to wait long for the proof.

— German-speaking Americans live in the West of the republic, and German-speaking Americans live in the East. People in the East are still German, said Hoecke. This sentence will surely irritate millions of citizens in the western part of the country. Not to mention its untrueness.

Hoecke went a step further. According to him, after 1945, West Germany adopted a “substitute identity”. He means it “European integration and American culture”. The East, on the other hand, was supposed to retain what was “German”. For the AfD leader in Thuringia, this opposition explains why – in his opinion – the division between East and West continues to this day.

Indeed, the percentage of foreigners in the GDR was negligible: several hundred contract workers from Angola or Vietnam, a handful of foreign students, and Soviet soldiers who rarely left their barracks.

“Finis Germania” is coming

The tone of the statement became even more somber. Hoecke spoke of “Finis Germania”, i.e. the end of Germany, and painted a picture of the country sinking into decline. In his opinion, the Federal Republic is heading towards disaster. The government in Berlin is, he claims, remotely controlled by the “hegemon”, i.e United States.

According to Hoecke, the elite of the Federal Republic is is not “German elite”. — She never learned to define German interests. This is an elite that cannot do anything useful for Germany, and in the worst case scenario, even hates Germany, he argued.

Such views are not new to him. Hoecke has been repeating them for years. According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the German counterintelligence service, this violates the constitutional definition of citizenship.
