End of Israel's truce with Lebanon. Drone attack after a few hours

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli drone strikes along roads in three towns in southern Lebanon. AFP reported that at least one of the airstrikes resulted in casualties, but did not specify whether the victims were killed or injured.

Far-right Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir called the ceasefire brokered by Washington a “serious mistake.” The ceasefire is “an illusion of advisers who encourage the Prime Minister (Israel Benjamin Netanyahu) to make bad decisions,” he wrote on the X website on Thursday.

The truce between Israel and Lebanon lasted several hours

In a statement issued after two days of talks in Washington, Israel and Lebanon announced on Wednesday that they had “agreed to implement a ceasefire.” It is to be conditional on a complete cessation of attacks by the pro-Iranian Shiite organization Hezbollah and the withdrawal of all its fighters from the South Litani sector in southern Lebanon. The parties also agreed to create “pilot zones” in which the Lebanese army will take exclusive control of the territory, excluding all non-state actors.

Israel emphasized that lasting peace requires the disarmament of Hezbollah and the liquidation of its infrastructure throughout Lebanon. The Lebanese side, in turn, declared to strengthen the capabilities of its armed forces, with the support of the US, in order to achieve “effective control over the entire territory of the country.”

Hezbollah announced on Tuesday that it would not accept any partial ceasefire with Israel, and “any aggression from the Zionist enemy will trigger an even stronger reaction” from the group.

An adviser to the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, said on Tuesday that Berri's main demand remains a “comprehensive ceasefire”, meaning “a cessation of airstrikes, from land and sea, and no demolitions and destruction” in southern Lebanon. Berri is the leader of the Shiite Amal movement, an ally of Hezbollah.
