Bernadette Szocs (30 years old) and Ovidiu Ionescu (35 years old) qualified in the quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis Championships, in the women's doubles, respectively men's doubles.
The World Table Tennis Championships in Doha continued on Wednesday, May 21, with new matches attended by Romanian representatives. Two of them managed to advance further and approach the phases in which the medals are divided.

More accurate, Bernadette Szocs and Sofia Polcanova qualified in the quarterfinals of the female double sampleafter a difficult match. The Romanian-Austrian pair had on the other side of the table a team made up of Czech Hana Matelova and Slovaka Barbora Balazova.
Szocs and Polcanova awarded their first set with 11-7, but there were two sets in a row won with 11-9 by Matelova and Balazova. The Romanian and her partner were not intimidated, equalized at sets and then closed the match: 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5).
Due to this result, Szocs and Polcanova qualified in the quarterfinals, where they will give the Germans Sabine Winter and Yuan Wan. In this phase are Adina Diaconu and her partner Maria Xiao, who will play on Thursday, May 22, against Chinese Manyu Wang and Man Kuai.
Bernadette Szocs can be qualified in the first 8 and in the simple competition, but will have a complicated mission. In “Optimi”, the 30 -year -old athlete will take with Manyu Wang.
Ovidiu Ionescu and Alvaro Robbles fight for qualification in the semifinals at the male double
Not only did Szocs secured his presence in “quarters”, but also Ovidiu Ionescu, a player who team with the Spanish Alvaro Robles. In the finals, the two played against the Japanese Tomokazu Harimoto and Sister Matsushima.
