Romanians do not want a government led by a technocrat and support closer proximity to the European Union. Avangarde SURVEY

The majority of Romanians do not support the option of a government of technocrats, nor the appointment of an independent prime minister, according to a poll conducted by Avangarde in the last week of May. The research comes in the context in which the president Nicușor Dan analyzes the options for the formation of a new Executive, after the fall of the government led by Ilie Bolojan.

According to survey data, 53% of respondents believe that appointing an independent prime minister from outside the political parties to lead a government made up of former coalition parties is a bad idea. Only 36.5% appreciate this option, while 10.5% did not express an opinion.
Also, the idea of a government of technocrats is rejected by 52.7% of those surveyed, while 37.5% say they would support such a formula.
The survey also reveals the preferences of Romanians in terms of foreign policy. Almost two-thirds of respondents, namely 66.7%, support a closer approach to the European Union, while 24.9% declare themselves against this direction.
As for the relationship with President Donald Trump's administration, opinions are divided. 45.6% of respondents do not support a rapprochement with Washington, while 42.8% believe that Romania should strengthen its relations with the current American administration.
At the same time, 56.4% of those interviewed say they would support the organization of early elections, while 37.9% oppose such a solution. Although the idea has support among the population, the organization of the anticipated remains difficult from a political and procedural point of view.
The Avangarde survey was conducted by telephone between May 22-31, on a sample of 900 people, representative at the national level. The margin of error is ±3.4%.
