Blackened and dry leaf tips are a sign that the plant is suffering from current conditions or improper care. The author of the Zen channel “Exotica – encyclopedia of house plants” spoke about the main mistakes of flower growers and how to solve them.
The main causes of blackening of leaves
Often the problem is watering. If you rarely water or, on the contrary, often flood your plants, then the tips of the leaves begin to signal a problem first. And when they become dark and wet, most likely the roots have begun to rot.
Poor quality of tap water also does not have the best effect on plant health. Hard water salts accumulate in the soil, and the roots are no longer able to absorb moisture normally.
The third reason is drafts and a cold window sill. Tropical plants cannot tolerate hypothermia. But sunburn also leads to a similar result – the tips of the leaves begin to turn black.
And when the leaves not only darken, but also become deformed, covered with spots and a sticky coating, most likely the cause is pests.
How to save a plant
First, inspect the leaves for pests. If they are not there, check the soil: when the soil is wet and smells bad, examine the condition of the roots.
Assess the conditions in which the plant is located – for example, is the window sill cool, are the leaves touching the cold window.
Check the quality of the water you water the plant with. Also make sure that it is in a comfortable sized pot and that the roots are not crowded.
