“We didn't know how difficult it was for him.” Gigi's daughter explained why there was always a chair next to him on stage

“It’s hard to understand all this, how it all happened. He came out to people until the very end. Sometimes he didn’t tell us – we didn’t know a lot of things, how difficult it was for him,” said Kvitoslava Giga.

The artist’s daughter noted that her father, despite his health problems, was inspired by his performances on stage. She added that Stepan Giga seemed to come to life during the concerts.

“We understood that he was in pain. That it was not for nothing that that chair stood on the stage. People may have thought that this was some kind of part [сценического решения]. It was hard for him. He walked through strength, through pain and was inspired by people,” she added.

Giga's son, Stepan Giga Jr., admitted that they offered his father to reduce the number of performances, but he refused.

“He worked until the very end,” noted the artist’s son.

In the same interview, Gigi’s children announced the cause of his death for the first time. They noted that the singer fought for life for two and a half months.

Context

Stepan Giga was born on November 16, 1959 in the village of Belki, Transcarpathian region. He is People's Artist of Ukraine (2002). Gigi's discography includes five albums. The artist’s most famous hits are “Yavorina”, “My Friends”, “Dream”.

On November 19, 2025, information appeared on Gigi’s Instagram page that the singer urgently operated on And He is in serious but stable condition.

Stepan Giga died on December 12, 2025 in the intensive care unit of a Lviv hospital at the age of 66.

The singer bequeathed to be buried in Lvov at the Lychakiv cemetery. His last wish was fulfilled.
