Is Irineu Darău a minister or an influencer? “I am one of the few politicians who rests his head on the pillow”
In a single day, the interim USR Minister of Economy and Digitization, Irineu Darău, managed to be an influencer three times and never an official of the Romanian state.
For the first time, Darău intervened on Facebook. The second time it appeared in a scandal of TV proportions. This is how new public policies are made.
Social media governance
On his FB account, Minister Darău hyperbolized by attacking Sebastian Ghiță, whom he presented as a master of the tech field in Romania. If after 10 years since he fled, Ghiță is moving Romania's digitalization from Serbia like the horse on a chessboard, then Ghiță is not to blame. The Romanian state is to blame. “Strengthen your state, gentlemen”, said another former famous old television patron.
And the state got stronger. It is not an ideal state, not even by a long shot. But we are not even at the stage where areas of the economy are led by someone from Serbia. It's one thing for Ghita to break heads with a club, and it's much harder to build. The business bully is like the schoolyard bully: he only scares the fearful and blackmailable.
But the bully doesn't assemble teams to create brands, companies or products.
Sebastian Ghiță is a failure of the secret services. An intelligent man has come to have no limits, and often no logic, precisely because he has cohabited with discretionary power. And he crossed himself because of how much stupidity he saw. Now Ghita is in his world, full of fictions.
But it can be seen that the script is trans-party and it works. Rather than having delusions from afar with market gurus, Minister Darău would rather look in the councilors' organization chart of the Cotroceni Palace. There are advisors out there with real, actual strengths who are passionate about dealing with big players in the digital space.
As the Minister of Economy and Digitization can look at the tech companies covered by the secret services, as Sebastian Ghiță was also covered, when he ended up paying Coldea's vacations.
That episode was one of the most embarrassing for an EU secret service chief. And the explanation given by Florian Coldea, that he was on a mission, i.e. he was spying on Ghiță at the “happy hour” discount cocktails, passes the bar of absurdity. Let's not forget: pursued by justice, Ghiță disappeared from an SRI reception.
Governance in the TV studio
Returning to the Minister of Economy, he quickly shook off the glory of the fight on social networks with the ghost of Ghiță. In the evening, Darău went to the Antena 3 studio, reported G4Media. And the USR politician provided another episode of nervous and confused influencer.
The minister was asked by journalist Cătălina Porumbel about a party colleague. The USR man was promoted to a public position even though he has criminal problems. What did Darau do? Not only did he make the USR colleague a hero, but he also invoked a hidden agenda of the journalist. He started talking about I-don't-know-what-story of a “t” degree relative of the TV producer.
It had nothing to do with the public responsibilities of the elected and appointed. The scene was surreal. The minister seemed like the nighttime reincarnation of the MAI spokesman, the one who invoked hidden interests of the Recorder journalists when they reported some facts. In this case, Darău had received a question. Angry, he responded with an “Armageddon document.”
The show ended with a scandal. Darău called himself “one of the few politicians who put his head on the pillow.” Great shortage of honest people, apart from him, believes the USR politician, the one who sleeps unturned. But the night was young and she didn't lay her head on the pillow. Directly from TV, Darău relaunched, fresh, in digital.
Governing the Metaverse
Close to midnight on a sensational day, the Minister of Economy and Digitalization sat down at the computer. He posted a red card on Facebook, like when communal buses are withdrawn from the race, so that the tired driver can play backgammon with the neighbor, under the vine.
Irineu Darău scratched warily, in white letters on the cardboard: “When Porumbel-Voicu A3 threatens me with judgment and the fugitive Ghiță RTV comes out to attack, I sleep even more peacefully knowing that I am doing the right thing. Where is journalism? What about digitalization? STOP theft and lies!”.
Really, where is the digitization? It would be polite to have the Minister of Digitization answer us, if anyone finds him when he returns from the Metaverse.
