Chairman of the Norilsk City Council Alexander Pestryakov held a meeting with the head and students of the Norilsk College of Industrial Technologies and Service (NTPTiS).

Chairman of the Deputy Commission on Urban Affairs Roman Serbin also took part in the dialogue. The reason for the conversation was a recent visit to a technical school, where students asked a number of questions regarding the life of the city. And these issues require more detailed discussion, Pestryakov emphasized.

As the director of NTPTiS Yuri Pokhabov explained, students not only successfully master academic disciplines, but also want to take an active part in the public life of the city. Some of the guys already combine study and work, so they are familiar first-hand with the various problems that exist in the city today.

In particular, students living in the Kayerkan area regularly face interruptions in public transport: not only are bus intervals long, but the schedule is not always followed – often the announced transport does not appear on the line. The result is overcrowded buses during rush hour. There can be many reasons for such situations, explained Roman Serbin. In particular, when a storm warning is in effect, buses may be taken off the route to allow passengers to be transported in a convoy.

In addition, there is still a shortage of drivers in Norilsk Transport. However, Alexander Pestryakov added, now, thanks to the work of the municipality, for the first time in a long time there is a positive trend in resolving the personnel issue in Norilsk Transport: the situation has been significantly improved – the shortage of drivers today is 88 people, whereas previously this figure always exceeded 100-120 people.

At the meeting, we also discussed environmental problems: the current situation with the removal of solid waste is close to critical, and waste disposal at landfills is an outdated method. Students see a solution to the problem in the construction of a waste incineration plant – a similar installation already exists in the village of Snezhnogorsk. The deputies emphasized that the solution to the “garbage” problem must be comprehensive and added that there are plans to build a waste processing plant – the implementation of the Norilsk Eco-Technopark project is planned within the framework of the federal program “Ecological Well-Being”.

Among other problems that were discussed at the meeting were the repair of roads and sidewalks, major repairs of houses, the sanitary condition of entrances, snow removal and other issues of urban and housing and communal services. The parliamentarians took up questions on some addresses, and explained to the children the procedure for solving problems on others.

“I’m glad that I was able to communicate more substantively with student activists. I have never hidden the fact that I consider communication with young people a serious help in parliamentary work: they do not have a “clouded” view, they are not afraid to ask questions and offer non-standard solutions to long-standing problems. In addition, the guys get working professions and in the near future connect their lives with Norilsk. I hope that in the future these students will become active participants in the social and political life of our city,” Chairman of the Norilsk City Council Alexander Pestryakov summed up the results of the meeting.
