The project of the new building of the National Center “Russia”, developed by the architectural bureau ATRIUM, was presented as part of the XXXI International Exhibition “ARCH MOSCOW”, which takes place in Gostiny Dvor from May 27 to 30.
The project is positioned as one of the largest socio-cultural objects in the country and claims to be a new architectural symbol of Russia.
The architectural concept was based on the image of a “flying cover” – a bionic form visually floating above the ground. As the chief architect of the project, Anton Nadtochiy, noted, the idea reflects the versatility of the country and its focus on the future. At the same time, the building retains a recognizable silhouette, avoiding traditional monumentality.
The total area of the facility will exceed 205 thousand square meters. m. The center will be able to simultaneously accommodate up to 20 thousand people. Inside there will be more than 50 thousand square meters. m of temporary exhibition spaces, 10 thousand sq. m of permanent exhibition, a multifunctional congress and concert hall, public spaces and a landscape park.
Construction of the facility began in March 2026. One of the main engineering features of the project was the difficult geological conditions: a 15 m deep pit is located above six active tunnels of three metro lines.
In addition, the project provides for the creation of the world's largest viewing amphitheater, which will be located under the roof of the building. The concert hall will be equipped with a rapid transformation system: thanks to engineering solutions, the stalls will be able to transform into a flat space in 15 minutes.
The project pays special attention to digital infrastructure. A digital passport system and an online platform will be introduced for visitors, which will allow them to track the congestion of zones in real time, build navigation routes within the center and use a built-in translator during international events.
As the project developers note, the Rossiya National Center is conceived not only as an exhibition space, but also as a multifunctional platform that combines cultural, educational and business functions using modern architectural and technological solutions.
