— Europe and the United States? Yes, we are different in some respects and that cannot be denied. However, this should not prevent us from remaining close allies, Sikorski said.

The Minister listed several helpful principles to achieve this goal. According to him, Europe should not pretend that it is identical to the US, but it should also remember that it is not an enemy of the United States. — All major American strategic documents point to one main adversary. It is not Europe, but China – Sikorski emphasized.

Radosław Sikorski: Europe must stand on its own feet

However, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that Europe must stand on its own feet and be independent, it cannot rely only on the USA. — The United States can't produce everything itself. Europe must act, he said, emphasizing, however, that the Old Continent is not seeking to replace the USA.

The politician advised that both sides should maintain more peace in their mutual relations because they need each other, so for the common benefit they should cooperate wherever possible. However, as he noted, one element of the relationship is necessary, namely trust. “You don't have to agree on everything to trust each other on the most important things,” he said.

On Wednesday in Cyprus, Sikorski took part in the third international security conference, European Union Security Initiative Policy Dialogue (EUSI), organized by the European University Institute. The meeting brings together EU experts, decision-makers and government representatives. They discuss the strategic defense challenges facing Europe.

On Thursday, also in Cyprus, the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take part in an unofficial meeting of foreign ministers of EU countries in the Gymnich format. Such meetings are characterized by a free exchange of opinions and discussion without the adoption of binding documents.
