When the first frosts have already whitened the roofs, and your roses are still blooming, this is a real miracle. The secret is not only in proper care, but also in natural insulation of the roots. Experienced gardeners reveal the secret of banana peels, which not only protects against the cold, but also gives a powerful impetus for spring awakening.
Banana peel is a real storehouse of potassium, phosphorus and calcium. These microelements strengthen the root system and help the plant survive even severe frosts. Decomposing gradually, the peel creates a nutritious layer that works as a natural “warmer” for the roots.
How to properly insulate:
- Collect the peels of 3-4 bananas and dry them in the oven at low temperature.
- Grind into crumbs and mix with soil at the base of the bush.
- Cover with a layer of compost 5-7 cm thick.
- Add spruce branches on top for snow retention.
Banana peel works in a complex way: potassium increases the winter hardiness of roses, phosphorus strengthens the roots, calcium protects the stems from rotting, and the organic layer softens temperature changes. Such care helps the bushes to withstand frosts more easily and begin to grow more actively in the spring.
Use only fresh or dried peels – fermented material can be harmful. For young bushes, reduce the dose by half. In snowless winters, provide additional cover.
Already next spring you will notice the result: the roses will begin to grow earlier than usual, release powerful shoots and form more buds. This method is especially appreciated by owners of capricious varieties: hybrid tea and climbing roses.
