Difficult rescue operation
The Federal Agency for Technical Assistance (THW) stated: “The so-called 'golden rescue window' usually appears within the first 24 to 72 hours.” — during this period, the chances of survival are highest,” explained Andrea Wirth from the regional association THW Saxony-Thuringia.
Several wheel loaders, excavators and cranes were also used to remove debris. The rescuers were under a lot of strain. According to Daniel Hofmann, spokesman for the THW operational command, there was heavy dust during the search, so they had to wear protective masks at all times.
