Police officers recommend drivers to increase their attention and concentration behind the wheel and to constantly adapt their speed to the weather and road conditions. It is also essential to maintain a sufficient safety distance to allow safe braking, and to avoid risky maneuvers such as sudden braking, sudden changes of direction or repeated overtaking, which can lead to skidding on slippery roads.
The Road Brigade also recommends stopping or parking only in specially arranged places, ensuring good visibility by cleaning the windshield, mirrors, side windows and the rear window, as well as checking the operation of the lighting, signaling, air conditioning and windshield wipers systems. At the same time, drivers are advised to inquire in advance about the condition of the roads on the route they are going to travel and to prepare their vehicle for travel.
Obeying the signals and indications of the traffic policemen in traffic is mandatory, as is the wearing of the seat belt, both for the driver and for the passengers.
As for pedestrians, the police recommend moving exclusively on the sidewalks and crossing the street only in the places marked and properly signaled, at the green light and only after making sure that their intention to cross has been noticed by the drivers.
The authorities remind that the use of winter tires is mandatory when driving on roads covered with snow, ice or ice. For vehicles with a maximum authorized mass of more than 3.5 tons or for those intended for the transport of people with more than nine seats, including the driver's, it is mandatory to equip the drive axles with winter tires or install chains or certified anti-skid equipment.
Failure to comply with these obligations is sanctioned with fines between 9 and 20 fine points, respectively between 1,822.5 and 4,050 lei. In addition, the police will impound the vehicle's registration certificate, issuing a substitute proof without the right to drive.
