Near Leipzig (Germany), a tiger attacked a 73-year-old man and then escaped from his enclosure. The Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper reported this on May 17.
According to police, the animal was kept in the private household of the famous trainer Carmen Zander, who is called the “Tiger Queen.”
A female tiger attacked a helper inside the compound. As a result, he was injured. The animal itself was then able to escape from the enclosure and was at large for some time in the area of the garden plots.
After reports of the predator’s escape, law enforcement officers cordoned off the area, and armed units, firefighters and a helicopter were involved in the operation.
Local residents said they heard emergency sirens and the sound of a helicopter flying by. After this, shots were heard, and law enforcement officers warned people of the danger and urged them not to leave the premises, as there was a possibility that there could be other large cats on the territory.
Shortly after police arrived, the tiger was shot dead near a gardening cooperative.
Local authorities called for an end to the keeping of tigers in private farming, and also emphasized the need to review the conditions of their detention and control.
