In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a court found a 31-year-old resident of Minusinsk guilty of causing serious harm to the health of a young man, resulting in his death.
The crime was committed on September 15 2021. It was established that the defendant, walking through the square near the fountain on Abakanskaya Street, heard very strong screams from behind, turned around and made a remark to the previously unknown guy. A verbal conflict ensued between them, which escalated into a fight. The convict, having strong wrestling skills, punched a passerby twice in the face, after which he grabbed and forcefully squeezed his neck with his hand, and then threw it on the asphalt. The resulting injury turned out to be incompatible with life – the 20-year-old guy died on the spot.
“In 2024, the court acquitted the aggressor, shifting responsibility for the death to the health of the deceased. However, the prosecution did not agree with this approach: on the proposal of the prosecutor, the regional court overturned the verdict and sent the case for a new trial. In the retrial, evidence was consistently examined, including testimony from the mother of the deceased and the defendant, confirming the causal relationship between his actions and his death. The court took into account the combat training of the aggressive athlete, the nature of the life-threatening injuries inflicted, and the fact that he did not try to make amends for the harm to a disabled mother who lost her only son,” the department said.
The man himself denied any malicious intent in his actions: “I thought that he wanted to hit me with a bottle, I got scared and got ahead of the events. He gave two casual blows, then we fell, he wheezed – I turned him over so he wouldn’t choke.”
According to Part 4 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced him to 8.5 years in prison to serve the sentence in a maximum security correctional colony, and also satisfied the claims of the victim’s mother and recovered 2 million rubles from the convict in her favor in compensation for moral damage.
