“What you have done for Romania is worth more than any ranking”. Wave of support for Alexandra Căpitănescu, after her success at Eurovision 2026

Bulgaria won Eurovision 2026 on Saturday night, followed by Israel and Romania. Alexandra Căpitănescu managed, after 16 years, to bring our country back to the top three places in the contest that has a 70-year tradition.

In 2010, in Oslo, Paula Seling and Ovi represented Romania with the song “Playing with Fire”. The two impressed with their vocal duet, and Romania got 3rd place again. It was our country's last best ranking.

Romanian artists and composers congratulated Alexandra Căpitănescu's successful performance last night in Vienna.

“What you have done for Romania is worth more than any ranking. You have made Romania UNITE, and this has not happened for a very long time. You have made Romanians LIVE and FEEL EMOTIONS, HOPE AGAIN THAT IT IS POSSIBLE. You have rekindled the FLAME”, singer Elena Gheorghe wrote on Facebook.

“With tears in my eyes and full of emotions, congratulations to Alexandra Capitănescu for the sensational result and a well-deserved 3rd place at Eurovision!!! If the music had mattered 100% and not that geo-political part in the related juries, you would have been No. 1. For Romania you have won everything”, was the message of Cezar Ouatu, countertenor and former Eurovision participant in 2013, who obtained 13th place with the song “It's My Life”.

And the University of Bucharest sent a message to congratulate the young woman who graduated from the Faculty of Physics and is now a master's student in medical physics.

“Although a Physics student, Alexandra wrote history at Eurovision! Alexandra Căpitănescu, you are our winner. The University from the heart of Bucharest congratulates you! You were incredible last night, you put on a show, you transmitted energy, emotion, you conquered the audience and brought Romania a historic result: we conquered the podium!”, wrote the representatives of the University of Bucharest.

“In an edition won by a “melody” entitled BANGA RANGA (that's all it was, even if it's produced by a Romanian, I totally dislike it), Alexandra Căpitănescu managed a huge performance: she sang well, presented herself professionally and brought Romania, for the third time, the third place! Definitely deserved, hard work, at the beginning of her career!”, Daniel Iordăchioaie, composer and lyricist, also transmitted.

Alexandra Căpitănescu's success was also greeted during the night by Tudor Chirilă, who was her mentor at Vocea României. The artist posted a short message on Facebook just minutes after the final results were displayed. “Rock on, girl! Congratulations!”, wrote Chirila on Saturday night.

Another juror from Vocea României, Horia Brenciu, appreciated that the result obtained by Alexandra Căpitănescu is “extraordinary”.

“A voice of Romania won! Youth, talent, rock music, a well-directed show won! The Romanians and Romania won! I was a little heartbroken when we went straight to the 1st place, but destiny remembered… Miorița. I'm going to bed. Tomorrow we have tennis. Tonight music united us! Romanians everywhere, rejoice!”, was Brenciu's message.

Ovidiu Komornyik made a joke in the message in which he congratulated Alexandra Câpitănescu, saying that our country will win Eurovision when we switch to the European currency.

“Congratulations to the Romanian Eurovision team for the extraordinary performance achieved — 3rd place, a ranking that equals the memorable results achieved by Luminița Anghel and Paula Seling! You are young, extremely talented and you have made an entire country proud. We will win when we change the currency to the euro!”, wrote the composer.
