A country in Africa is fighting an epidemic. More and more people are dead

Ebola virus epidemic in the DRC

This is the 17th Ebola outbreak in the DRC since the disease was discovered in 1976, with the previous one announced at the end of last year. The most serious epidemic so far occurred in 2018–20 and led to over 1,000 deaths. deaths in eastern DRC.

The current outbreak has spread to neighboring Uganda. On Friday, a case of infection with the virus was confirmed, which according to the authorities was imported from the DRC. In mid-May, one person died in the capital, Kampala.

Africa CDC, the African Union's public health agency, has expressed concern about the risk of further spread of the virus due to the proximity of the affected areas to Uganda and South Sudan.

The Ebola virus causes a highly contagious, serious disease that often ends in death. It spreads through direct contact with the blood, secretions and excretions of an infected person.
