US President Donald Trump has announced that he and his first lady, Melania Trump, will travel to Rome to participate in Pope Francis, USA Today reports.
“Melania and I will go to Pope Francis's funeral, Rome,” the American leader announced on Monday in a post on Social Truth.
Pope Francis died on the second day of Easter, after a stroke and a cardiac arrest, according to the details transmitted by the Vatican representatives.
They explained that the stroke led to a coma and subsequently to an irreversible cardiac arrest, notes Sky News.
When will Pope Francis be buried
The Italian press carries on Saturday, April 26, as possible for Pope Francis's funeral, given that the funerals must take place between the fourth and the sixth day after death, reports News.ro.
In 2024, the Sovereign Pontiff simplified the funeral rites and established by an official document that, when the time comes, his body will be deposited in the chapel of his residence in the house of Santa Marta, and not on a catafalc in Saint Peter. The coffin is to be exposed to the open public, not closed, as was tradition.
The representatives of the Vatican also stated that Pope Francis will be buried in the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, being for the first time in the last century when a pontiff is buried outside the Vatican. The decision was made by him more than a year ago and reflects his devotion to the Virgin Mary and the special connection with this church.
Pope Francis, born in Buenos Aires, in Argentina, on December 17, 1936, such as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is the first Jesuit Pope, the first Pope in America, the first pope in the southern hemisphere and the first pope born or raised outside Europe from Pope Syrian Grigore III in the eighth century.
“Feeling that the sunset of my earthly life is approaching and hopeful in eternal life, I want to express my testamentary will only in terms of the place of my burial.
I have always entrusted my life and priestly and episcopal service to the Virgin Mary, Maria Most Holy. Therefore, I ask my mortal remains to rest in waiting for the Resurrection Day in the Papal Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore ”, wrote the Pope in the will in full published by the Vatican, drafted by the Pontiff two years and nine months ago, on June 29, 2022, according to the BBC.
