Experts explained that bacteria in the intestines are divided into pathogenic (harmful), opportunistic (neutral) and non-pathogenic (beneficial). The latter, like bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, synthesize vitamins, protect against infections and strengthen the immune system. To maintain their number, you can “feed” the microflora with probiotics – live bacteria from food. The most famous probiotic is yogurt — regular consumption of it and other fermented milk products reduces the risk of intestinal cancer, normalizes cholesterol and helps with constipation.
But there are five more products that improve microflora:
- sauerkraut is a storehouse of fiber and vitamins;
- kimchi – a spicy Korean snack made from fermented vegetables, rich in iron and vitamin K;
- kombucha (kombucha) – a probiotic drink known as tea kvass;
- pickled cucumbers (not pickled with vinegar);
- Some cheeses (Gouda, mozzarella, cheddar) contain bacteria that survive aging.
“Add these products to your diet – and your intestines will thank you!” advised Rospotrebnadzor.
