Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of not respecting the US-brokered ceasefire that ends tonight and that it has no intention of ending the war launched in February 2022, Reuters reports.
“Today there was no silence on the front. Combat actions continued,” the Ukrainian leader said in his evening video message.
“Russia has no intention of ending this war. And we, unfortunately, are preparing for new attacks. But peace must come. That is exactly what we are working for,” Zelenskiy emphasized.
He also stated that his main negotiator, Rustem Umerov, asked him about the recent “political” and “technological” meetings in the USA, according to Agerpres.
“It is clear that the war in Iran is the one that attracts the most attention of the US. But there is also there (…) a support from the American people to end this war in Europe as well”, the Ukrainian president also declared.
Ukraine and Russia have accused each other
The two camps have accused each other of violating the US-brokered ceasefire, which was in effect on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he hoped it would be extended.
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the war in Ukraine was “coming to an end”. He said that he will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart only after a peace agreement is concluded.
On Sunday, Zelensky said Moscow had refrained from large-scale air and missile strikes, but continued attacks along areas of the 1,200-kilometer front line where Russian forces are advancing. He said Ukrainian troops are responding and defending their positions.
The Russian Defense Ministry has charged 23,802 Ukrainian ceasefire violations, according to information provided by Russian media on Monday.
