The author of the Ukrainian blog “Gospodinka” told how and what to feed cucumbers in order to reap a generous harvest.
The gardener noted that thanks to this fertilizer, there are so many cucumbers that she has to distribute them to neighbors.
“My seedlings have already grown up, it’s clear that they are even starting to stretch out a little, so you can’t hesitate – if you don’t plant them now, then it will be difficult for them to take root. I always give preference to the seedling method. An important point is that the soil temperature should be at least +17…+20 °C, because cucumbers cannot be planted in cold soil, they are very thermophilic,” she warned.
Before planting the seedlings, the blogger first added humus to the plot.
“And I add everything else directly to the hole,” she explained.
Feeding components for one hole:
- one small handful of nettles per hole;
- 2 tbsp. l. ash;
- soap;
- water – for abundant watering.
“I take a handful of fresh nettles, chop it up a little with a shovel and put it directly into the hole, sprinkle it on top with earth. Nettle works like an excellent organic matter – when decomposed, it provides nutrients and additional warmth for the roots. Next, I put a regular rope in the hole. The rope is needed so that later, when the plant grows up, I can pull it up – the cucumbers will weave along it perfectly. Then I add a little soap and be sure to ash – this is more than enough for one hole,” the blogger described the process.
She noted that before planting seedlings, she always waters the holes very generously so that the cucumbers take root well, and secures the rope to a support so that it does not get dirty or wet.
“My entire bed was filled only with humus, and I added all the other useful elements into the hole before planting. In this simple way, I get strong, healthy plants and a good harvest,” the gardener emphasized.
