Six Emergency Service Workers Killed in Russian Strike on Kharkiv

Major Mykola Derkach of the State Emergency Service was among six workers killed during a recent Russian strike on Kharkiv. At 48 years old, he served as the commander of the 6th State Fire and Rescue Unit and is survived by his daughter and mother.

Derkach was the sixth victim, joining fellow rescuers Dmitry Boyko, Danilo Tishchenko, Sergey Makovetsky, Vadim Zinchshenko, and Oleksiy Dorozhkin, a chief specialist in the Kharkiv City Council’s Department of Emergency Situations.

The tragedy unfolded as Russian forces have consistently targeted Kharkiv with various types of weaponry, including during rescue operations following previous attacks.

Images shared by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko depicting the feet of the fallen emergency workers quickly circulated through media outlets.
