More and more foreigners from distant countries come to Romania, but most of the time they do not want to stay here. Vlogger Cosmin Avram went to Sri Lanka and discussed the people who choose Romania.

Vlogger Cosmin Avram arrived in Sri Lanka, the country that gives Romania more and more workers, from year to year. In a clip posted on You Tube, which gathered almost 110,000 views, the Romanian presented the lives of simple people from Sri Lanka, in which poverty is ubiquitous. At the same time, he tried to find out what, beyond the poverty of Lucie, is the basis of the decision of these people to come to work in Romania.
Crunte poverty: work a whole day for a pound of chicken
First, Cosmin Avram discussed with one of the drivers who accompanied him in this country. From him he learned a few prices and how the people from here. People have few sources of income, and life is not easy at all.
“For simple people it is difficult. In this area, people earn from tea plantations and the rest of the crops.”confirmed it.
Simple Sri Lanka citizens bring very little money into the house. “People earn 1,000 breaks a day, the equivalent of $ 3 ”the driver said. Even if schools and medical system are free for every citizen, life is very difficult. It is no wonder that many choose to go to work in other countries, and Europe is target. This is how some have arrived in Romania, where they win several times better than in their country.
As in the poor areas of Romania, many children do not get to school because of their parents' material situation, so they are able to work.
If on average 1,000 ruptures per day are earned, one kilogram of chicken costs 1,200, and the bee between 2,500 and 2,700. Too much for these foods to be on the table of ordinary people.
“It is good in Romania. It is still good, even if we complain. Because the prices are high, but the salaries are not as high as we want. But, after visiting such places, you come to the conclusion that in Romania it is very good, from many points of view”, Says the vlogger at one point.
And life is more and more expensive in Sri Lanka. It sounds known, because in Romania there is an inflation that erodes from one month to another the power of buying people. Only here the cars and mopes have increased and 4 times in recent years.

Often, they can leave Romania easily in countries like Germany and Italy. It is very easy to leave another country, this is the reason,” explained the driver.
Interestingly, in Sri Lanka only those who worked in the state system have pensions. Others live a real drama when they are not able to mumble.
From here, the vlogger has reached a traditional tea plantation and a factory. The tea from here is totally different from the one who is sold in Romania or other European countries, concluded Cosmin Avram, after enjoying a cup of tea.

What the statistics say
Sri Lanka workers were in 2024 among the most many of the foreign workers who chose to come to Romania. According to official data, 16,115 people from Sri Lanka worked last year. Only those in Nepal are more numerous. 20.636 Nepalese worked in Romania, in 2024. On the 3rd place, at a great distance, are those from Bangladesh (6,298).
