Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Elena Ivanovskaya stated the need to create a coordination council on language policy in Ukraine, which could become a kind of headquarters for making urgent decisions in this area. She said this on May 8 on the air of “Kiev24”.
According to her, such a platform should bring together representatives of various government institutions, in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, as well as the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Ivanovskaya emphasized that language policy is a strategic issue that goes beyond the boundaries of one department.
“It seems to me that such a headquarters, such a platform for interaction between various institutions should solve such an important strategic issue, because the Ministry of Culture alone is unlikely to be able to answer the global challenges that the language issue now faces,” Ivanovskaya said.
She emphasized that we are talking about the state language and national culture, as well as the need to strengthen linguistic stability, in particular among young people.
Ivanovskaya believes that such a council should be headed by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine – Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy Tatyana Berezhnaya.
