Andrzej Poczobut is free. Trump behind the scenes. “Karol Nawrocki asked me”

“We have just managed to secure the release of three Poles and two Moldovans held in Belarusian and Russian custody. Thanks to my special presidential envoy, John Coale, we were able to take decisive action to achieve this release,” wrote Donald Trump on Truth Social.

He then informed that the President of Poland had asked him for help in securing the release of Andrzej Poczobut. Donald Trump called Karol Nawrocki a “friend”.

My friend, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, met me in September last year and asked me for help in freeing Andrzej Poczobut from a Belarusian prison. Today, thanks to our efforts, Poczobut is free,” Trump noted. “The United States keeps its word to its allies and friends“- he added.

Earlier, the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland reported that Karol Nawrocki talked by phone with the US president and thanked him for his “commitment and contribution to the release of Andrzej Poczobut”.

Meanwhile, the American president also thanked Alexander Lukashenko for his cooperation and “friendship”. “It's nice,” he concluded.

Andrzej Poczobut was released on April 28, 2026. Together with him, Belarus released four other prisoners: two Polish citizens and two Moldovan citizens. A Belarusian journalist, oppositionist and leader of the Polish minority in Belarus was released after 1,831 days spent in a Belarusian prison.
