FCSB’s Bench Players Key to Recent Success Under Reghecampf

FCSB’s recent performance under coach Laurențiu Reghecampf has seen significant contributions from players stepping in from the bench. Out of the seven goals scored during his tenure, five have been netted by substitutes, including Stoian (2), Boutoutaou (2), and Joao Paulo.

The tactical changes implemented by Reghecampf have proven effective, with decisive wins over Oțelul (1-0), FC Voluntari (2-1), and Rapid (4-1), all of which featured pivotal performances from substitutes.

Key Contributions in FCSB-Rapid Match

During the recent derby at Arena Națională, where FCSB mounted a comeback against Rapid, Reghecampf’s substitutions made a clear difference. Stoian, who was substituted in for Garita at the 42nd minute, energized the attack and assisted Joao Paulo’s goal.

Boutoutaou, who entered at halftime for Miculescu, was named MVP of the match, scoring twice to secure a 4-1 victory. Joao Paulo, who replaced Korenica at the 64-minute mark, further extended FCSB’s lead with a goal in the 79th minute. Batubinsika and Politic were brought on late in the game to help maintain the scoreline.

Remarkably, Boutoutaou had gone nine Superliga matches without scoring before his double against Rapid. He had previously found the net in the Conference League qualifiers and the Romanian Cup.

Reghecampf’s Strategy with Substitutes

At a press conference, Reghecampf emphasized the importance of his bench players in changing the dynamics of the game. “For me, it’s crucial that those coming off the bench make a difference. Players who are substituted need to reflect and push themselves to regain their best form. Sometimes, I keep certain players on the bench who deserve to start, to provide a change that can be seen in the score,” he stated.

He specifically mentioned Stoian, noting his youth and potential for growth: “He is very young, and I want him to stay grounded. I hope he continues to improve from match to match, and every time he steps onto the pitch, we see a significant difference.”

In 12 Liga 1 matches this season, Stoian has managed to score three goals and provide one assist, starting only once while coming off the bench in the other 11 matches.
