IT experts told how to pass an interview if it is assessed by AI

In Russia, AI is increasingly being used for the initial selection of candidates, and 14% of employers even conduct video interviews with AI assistants.

Therefore, it is important for the applicant to prepare not only for a conversation with a recruiter, but also for an interview that can be analyzed by an algorithm.

According to Tatyana Sezemina, an expert in the T1 AI direction (T1 IT holding), the main thing in such an interview is to speak structuredly, consistently and without contradictions.

“If the interview is recorded, AI can analyze not only individual answers, but also the overall flow of the conversation: what competencies the candidate demonstrates with examples, how logically he describes his experience, and whether his words differ in different parts of the interview. Therefore, it is better to prepare several working cases in advance. For example, don’t just say: “I was in sales,” but give a more specific answer: “managed B2B clients in the small business segment, worked with CRM, increased repeat sales by 15% in the quarter.” Or instead of “participated in analytics,” say: “collected data on customer requests, found the reason for the increase in refusals and suggested changing the script, after which the conversion increased.” Such answers are clear to both the real recruiter and the system,” the expert explained.

Before the interview, you should check your answers with the vacancy. If the description includes specific tasks, skills, tools, or experience requirements, it's best to think ahead about how they relate to your practice and name them during the conversation.

At the preparation stage, AI can be used as a simulator. For example, upload a job description into a neural network and ask to make a list of typical questions that a recruiter or hiring manager might ask. After this, you can prepare draft answers based on your experience and practice in the “test interview” format: ask the AI to ask questions and evaluate how structured and logical the answers sound.

It is especially important to follow the sequence of the story during the interview itself. If a candidate first says that they independently managed the project, and later clarifies that they were only responsible for sending out emails, this can reduce trust. It’s better to immediately indicate your area of responsibility: “the project was led by the manager, and I was responsible for collecting data and communicating with the contractor.”

In this case, the candidate has the right to clarify whether the conversation is being recorded and how the audio or video data will be used. If a company records an interview without a clear warning, this is a reason to ask additional questions about how the data will be processed in the future.

In the future, AI recruiters may conduct initial interviews more often in mass hiring: asking basic questions, checking motivation, talking about the company and giving the recruiter a brief summary of the conversation. But the final assessment of the candidate will still remain with the person.
