Wave of layoffs at Nike. The American giant is closing its office in Poland

Nike is closing its technology centers in Atlanta, China and Poland – this is the result of the wave of layoffs announced two weeks ago, which will affect as many as 1,400 people. The company argues that it is moving technology operations closer to main corporate offices to better meet business needs and speed up the execution of critical tasks.
“We are transforming our technology team to better align with the needs of the business, building smaller teams and accelerating critical work,” wrote Nike Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy in a memo to employees on April 26, cited by Oregon Live.

The company is now focusing on two strategic sites, the Philip H. Knight Campus in Beaverton and the Nike India Technology Center. In addition to these locations, Nike will also maintain technology centers near its corporate offices in Europe and China.

The changes are the result of a broader strategy implemented by CEO Elliott Hill, who has been leading the company for two years. Nike is moving away from its previous model based on direct sales, which has forced the reconstruction of the supply chain, including distribution and technology operations.
