Russian model Irina Shayk disgraced herself at the Met Gala 2026 Costume Institute charity ball, appearing on the red carpet of the event in a strange outfit. Many fashion observers, in particular the editors of Newsweek, found Shayk's image dubious, and the model herself was included in the list of people who were dressed ridiculously and tastelessly.
The publication notes that the theme of the charity ball was the expression of art through fashion – guests had to comply with a dress code, the motto of which was the phrase: “Fashion is art.” The Russian woman appeared on the red carpet in a miniature watch bra, covering the anatomical features of her body with diamond overlays, and in a low-slung black sheath skirt to the floor.
The editors, assessing Shayk’s image, wondered what was going on.
Tabloid The Big Lead noted that Sheik's image was unconvincing for the level of the event, as the sleek design left little room for plot or thematic depth. The material notes that it is more appropriate to walk the catwalk in this look, but not to appear on the Met Gala red carpet.
According to critics, the Russian woman lacked “dramatic chic.”
Radar Online called Shayk's outfit a “weird choice” for the Met Gala. She wore diamond nipple covers and several necklaces around her breasts, pairing the top with a tight black skirt to make her body a “work of art” rather than a fashion accessory.
