The investigation claims that in 2020, Vladislav Shpak from Melitopol at the age of 20 joined Azov to “improve his financial situation” and “for ideological reasons.” This was qualified as participation in the terrorist community, and the passage of military training – as training for terrorist activities.
Shpak participated in the defense of the Azovstal plant, and three months later, on May 17, he surrendered by order of the command.
From the materials announced in court, it is not entirely clear what exactly Shpak was doing in Azov. Some documents say that he performed the duties of a machine gunner, in others he is called an assistant grenade launcher, and thirdly-a reconnaissance driver.
At first, the investigator requested a colony for Shpak for 19 years, but the judge decided to return the process to the stage of the trial. After the accusation, it was already requested 22 years of conclusion. The prosecutor referred to the Amnesty International report on violations of international law by Ukrainian military. The judge recalled that the organization was recognized as “undesirable.”
