According to data updated in real time, the EUR/RON exchange rate reached 5.2047 lei, up by 0.0156 lei (+0.30%) compared to the previous level.

The development comes on the back of a visible upward trend throughout the trading session. The daily range indicates values between 5.1948 and 5.2087 lei, and the current level is very close to the maximum of the last 52 weeks, of 5.2087 lei.

Moreover, the European currency is currently trading near its highest level in the last year, which reflects persistent pressures on the local currency market.

Interbank quotations are directly determined by the ratio of supply and demand and fluctuate constantly throughout the day. They differ from the official exchange rate published by the National Bank of Romania, which represents an average of transactions and is announced only once a day.

The rise of the euro in the interbank market can have knock-on effects on the economy, influencing import costs, shelf prices and foreign currency lending rates, especially if the trend persists over the longer term.
