“Stress played a cruel joke.” Zelenskaya told how she didn’t get a grade when applying to university

First Lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenskaya, due to stress, was unable to solve a math problem on the college entrance exam and lost a grade because of this. She spoke about this on April 27 on the air of “Snidanok z 1+1”, presenting a manual for psychological support of Ukrainian graduates who are about to take the national multi-subject test (NMT).

“In our years, there was not a single test or UPE. Even then we took final exams at school, then I took entrance exams – exams for a university. And I remember that stress played a cruel joke on me a couple of times, because at school everything was still going on in their classes with teachers you know. And when the entrance exams – I remember the exam in mathematics, I could not solve one problem, which I then solved simply in my head when I was already driving home from the exam. And this stress didn’t give me a minus point,” she said.

Zelenskaya clarified that this was not the only mistake.

“Then I had to solve a system of equations – write in the answer in the test: z = x * y. I remember because it was important – I found x and y correctly, but for some reason I added them instead of multiplying them,” she shared her memories. “It was always important for me not to let stress stop me from really demonstrating my knowledge.”

Where did Elena Zelenskaya study?

Zelenskaya graduated from the Faculty of Construction of Krivoy Rog National University. She met Vladimir Zelensky during her school years. In 2003 they got married. The couple has two children. Daughter Alexandra was born in 2004, son Kirill in 2013.

In 2024, Zelenskaya admitted that she dreamed of becoming a flight attendant.

“At school, they often asked me to write an essay: “What do you want to be in the future?” I wrote an essay that I wanted to be a flight attendant. It seemed like such a romantic profession – they have a uniform, and they look so beautiful on airplanes. [Я училась] at the university it was urban construction and economics, I had to be a builder, I worked on television. “I was a scriptwriter for comedy programs, and then also an editor,” said the first lady of Ukraine. “Then my husband became president, and I have a completely different job. I never dreamed of being the president’s wife. But it seems to me that few people dream of this. Perhaps there are such people.”
